What is the Cheaper Home Batteries Program?

The Australian Government is rolling out a major new incentive: The Cheaper Home Batteries Program.

It’s a $2.3 billion investment to help households and businesses install small-scale home battery systems, starting from 1 July 2025.

The goal? Make battery storage more affordable, so more Australians can store the solar they generate — and use it when the sun’s not shining.

Here’s what you need to know:

  • It’s for new or existing solar owners installing a battery

  • The rebate covers around 30% of the upfront battery cost, based on the usable battery capacity

  • The discount is applied through your installer or retailer (like us!) — no hassle or chasing paperwork

  • It will gradually decrease by 10-15% year-on-year until 2030, so the sooner you act, the better

  • This program is part of the Small-scale Renewable Energy Scheme (SRES) administered by the Clean Energy Regulator — the same scheme that’s helped millions of Aussies get rooftop solar.

But who can actually get this incentive?
